Free Art Show 2019

[The Nineteenth Annual Free Art Show]

Once again, the Free Art Show will show the works of over twenty artists in several locations throughout Newburyport, MA, Seacoast NH, Southern ME, and beyond.

All are welcome to contribute. Please submit 30 (thirty) pieces. This might be 30 copies of the same piece, 30 different pieces, or anywhere in between. All pieces must be on a single sheet of paper between 4" X 5" and 8 ½" X 11". You may use one side of the paper or both sides. Any kind of paper is fine.
On Saturday, November 23rd., from 7-9pm, all the artists will meet at Port Tavern [84 State Street, Newburyport]. There, we will be able to see each other’s work, and a small stamp reading "free art 2019" will be stamped somewhere on your piece. Please remember this while planning your piece- if it is a one-sided work, we can stamp the back, if it is two-sided, you may want to leave room in the margin. The text will be about 10-point (newspaper –type sized).

On November 29th., we will take the work and post in various locations a sign with a pocket, containing random selections of the art. The sign will say "Take One". All the art is free for the taking.

There will be features in the local papers about the art show, and as people take art from the bins, will refill them. In this way, we will give away 1000 pieces of art to people in the community this holiday season.

The art can be pictures or words, color or black & white. It will be posted in public places where people of all ages will see it, so please consider that while deciding on what you will do for your art.

Keep in mind that the original intent of the Free Art Show was an anonymous exchange of art, so we'd like to discourage the overuse of self-promotional material on the artwork. You may sign your work if you want, but please refrain from using websites, links, and the like.

This year, we would like to try to get people in other communities to help produce free art shows to go up simultaneously. If you or someone you know would like to help organize one, please get in touch.

We are on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/freeartshow.

Please let us know ASAP if you’d like to be a part of the show. And you may write or call if you have any questions.

Feel free to forward this to anyone you think might also be interested.

Thank you.
